Matt Barger and Mark McKee have a lot in common: They both work in SF in the financial world. They share the same age group 45-49. Both attend m2 Performance Spin. Both attend m2/ggtc Tuesday track. Both have computrainers and do M2 workouts. Long-time veterans of the sport, they somehow keep getting faster as evidenced by personal best performances at their annual Pacific Grove staple event. It is thus no surprise that they shared the same podium, 2nd and 3rd places, and separated by only seconds. Pretty neat stuff. It goes without saying that the recipe for their success is not based on volume and logging a lot of training hours. To the contrary, both Matt and Mark are very busy guys on multiple fronts, thus the key to their training is to make every workout count.>>>>>> Quality versus quantity, Variety in training, Efficiency in use of available training time>>>>all core M2 training principles. One thing Mark and Matt do no share despite their many similarities is HR training zones. Mark & Matt's training zones are about 15 beats apart, and demonstrate once more how random formulas where you subtract age from arbitrary numbers like 220 or 180 are not useful for a purposeful HR-based training.
